So you know about chasse. By definition, chasse is to close feet at the second beat, we have this figure in different dances. We have it in Cha Cha Cha, Jive, Paso Doble, Waltz, Quickstep, and we have in it Jazz! But of course, the presentation of chasse is is quite different when it goes with different dance styles, thus making the dance distinguishable.
Chasse in Cha Cha Cha: associates with the unmistakable hip actions.
Chasse in Jive- associates with the popping knees so it makes the dance jazzily hoppy.
Chasse in Paso Doble- associates with the unique shapping that you don't need the 'Spanish Gypsy' to tell it is Paso Doble.
Chasse in Waltz- associates with the elegant frame and fit the three-beat music with three even steps.
Chasse in Quickstep- associates with a toned frame so as to secure the really quick steps.
So you see, I always say 'know the basic', this is a very good example. The basic here is not only knowing the footstep, but also knowing the rhythm, tempo, frame, shaping, characteristics of the dances, so that you can apply the footwork of chasse into the dance perfectly and give a real dance. If not, you may just apply the foot step and show no trace of the dance style- no one can tell what dance are you dancing.
