Can't Take my Eyes Off You, a song which is worldwide known, also a very popular wedding song for first dance.
Therefore not surprisingly, I have got a number of enquiries regarding this.
When I was asked to write a dance for this song, I surfed online to get inspiration. Since this song itself and as wedding song choice, is so popular there are many wedding dance demos or tutorials on the Net.
I do not want to copy other instructors’ work, but merely watching nice dancing itself is enjoyable.
As I was watching, I started to analyse their work. The structure of the song is very clear- this is also why the song is good for complete beginners, therefore the dances written were also very easily to identify.
Even the choreography from each instructor is unique, the figures used are quite similar. Not hard to understand, because the demos are all not designed for professionals- most wedding couples are not professionals.
And then I sorted out the commonly used figures/moves:
- The box, and the turning box, starting either foot, in different positions;
- The wrap, and the walk around in the wrap;
- The lock, and the walk around in the lock;
- The cleaver, and the slide out from the cleaver;
- Turns, CW or CCW, closed hold, double hand hold, single hand hold, cross hand hold;
And also some WOOW elements:
- Check or drop;
- Lift.
Arya, with these researches, and then combining the favourite moves (mentioned in the previous blog entries) writing my own choreography is not difficult.
