**This is my personal notes to the Book "Modern Dance", summarizing the useful bit for me only
Dancing is an art form in which a dancer moves through space and time with dynamic and expressive movement qualities. Our body structure and movement potential, our senses and emotional, and our life experiences, attitudes, and intentions all contribute to the way we move both in our daily life and in our dance movements. There are various movement exercises that you can do to develop your awareness of your postural body shapes, the interrelationships and connections of the body parts, your relationship to space, and how your energy and intentions affect movement qualities and expression.
Finding New Ways to Move
Where does movement originate? An important primary source is yourself. Movement experienced with no expectation of right or wrong results can be an effective method to begin the development of your own movement style and to begin to know how you want to express your inner feelings through movement. It is important that you develop awareness of yourself and commit to the discovery of the uniqueness of your own body structure in order to find how your body structure enables you to move most effectively. It is also important to nurture your movement preferences and expressively. If you involve yourself in the spirit of improvisation, eventually you will find the way of moving that ‘feels right’ for your body, based on all you have experienced in life. Sensitive self-exploration fosters your own creative understanding. In addition, establishing a strong partnership with your teacher as your guide and mentor in conjunction with your own self-knowledge will increase your potential for achieving your dance goals and dreams.
