From Solo to Partnering

As an experienced lady dancer in Hong Kong, I can ensure you that dancing solo is a much more common phenomenon than anyone can imagine.

Therefore, we the single ladies have built a very nice skill, which is to be a single lady.

😄😄😄

Alright, I mean to dance solo.

Since we have no partner to practice, we focus more on the basic figures- what else can we do? No partner, only the lady steps are left.

It is known that solo practising helps perfect skills. We have a dream to be led, so we would like to get prepared before we can finally find a lead. We study the lady's steps carefully, so that we know our posture, our footwork, our alignment, our everything very well.

Some ambitious ladies may also like to learn about the man's steps in order to get a better knowledge towards the dance.

All these sound good, and it seems that there are many advantages practising so frequently, however, we can't overlook the other side of the coin.

We are very used to dance solo, and in fact, we are too accustomed to dancing solo. Thus, when we finally partner up with a lead dancer, we may get confused with the leading signals, in fact some of us don't even know there're signals!

Nevertheless, enriching one's technique on our own can only contribute towards a better partnership if dancers choose to take on a ballroom dance partner at some point in their dance journey.
