Dance injuries (part 2:professional attention)

Patellar Tendinitis- repetitive jumping and landing can produce small scars in the patellar tendon, causing pain, tenderness, and inflammation directly below the kneecap.

Shin Splints- it is resulted from overuse or improper use of the muscles around the shin bone. The most frequent causes are shoes that give insufficient support, fallen arches, lack of conditioning, and the impact from landing on a hard surface. Serious shin splint can develop into stress fractures.

Sprains- a sudden or violent twisting of a joint, causing hemorrhage in the surrounding tissues. Ankle sprains are common because the ligaments on the outside of the ankle joint are the weakest in the ankle.

Stress fracture- caused by repetitive jogging, jumping, and landing, occur usually in the shin, the ball of the feet, involving one or both of the small sesamoid bones located in this area of the foot.
