The Difference between a Ballet/Jazz Turn and a Latin Spin

If you have already read through Spin and Turn part 1-6, and Multiple Spin Technique part 1-2, you will know the basics: CBM, CBMP, Spotting, Core Toning, Muscles engagement, elevation, weight distribution and the respected turning direction.

Some may wonder why in the Spin & Turn (part 3) I did the spin quite differently. Yes, that's different because that's not a Latin Spin, that's a Jazz Turn.

There are difference between a Pirouette Turn and a Latin Spin, however, the practice of both will only help get the spinning technique.

The figure above summarizes the major differences and similarities between a Jazz Turn and a Latin Spin, detail in the video clip, you can skip to the last few seconds for the demo. In short, we need to pay more attention on the weight distribution (on the inside edge of the ball of the foot) so as not to get thrown away; the others are mostly the same.
