Cuban Hip Motion and Body Separation

OH NO AGAIN! YOUR HIPS!!!

We all know that hip actions are very important in Latin Dancing, we have hip rock actions, hip twist actions, cucarachas actions... and there is one ultimate hip action called Cuban Hip Motion (you may want to check the 13 hip actions here) which defines 'Latin Dancing' from many other dance genres. In fact, true Latin Dancing is not about what figures or steps or moves you do, it is about whether or not you use the Cuban Hip Action- Mambo, Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Merengue, Lambada... all included, except Paso Double. And by the way, Swing is not a Latin Dance in case you don't know).

Okay, everyone knows about Latin Dances knows about Cuban Hip Action. You read the technique book, you see 'it is a natural result of the correct use of legs, knees, ankles and feet', and you think this is not telling you anything.

A simple method to testify your Cuban Hip Motion is whether or not you bounce- if you bounce you are properly wrong. You can place something on your head to limit you bounce.

However, our focus should stay on how to move the hip s without bouncing. The answer is simple, yet hard to execute- do your basics. Basics do not mean to do particular patterns or figures, it is the practising of the fundamentals.

I wonder how many of you do body separation exercise seriously. Alright, I can understand that 'social' dancers do not feel an urge to do manage the perfect actions as the objective is to socialize. We'll, if you think you are a keen dancer, at least you should go through the warming up, stretching and separation each time before your practice. Mind that I didn't say each time of your class, it is your own practising.

Let's see how the separation work your non-bouncing hips.
