Dress up for Dancing

You are dancing you want to look cool. In fact I always see girls wearing as sexy as possible while dancing in a nightclub. However, most of them actually wear the wrong type- either too little garment that the dress keeps slipping down or tight skirt that limits the leg movements; and their shoes are really not proper for the floor they are going to dance on.

Generally speaking, you are not going to wear really like a 'dancer' in a nightclub, immaculate, formal attire is worn for ballroom dancing competitions or for shows only, social dancers should dress depends on the type of function you are attending, and/or the style of dance you mostly involve in during the function, the most important point is that whatever you wear should be comfortable and appropriate for the particular dance.

Nightclub dancing does not have a defined dress code, whenever your clothing is not too restricting, especially around the legs. It is extremely important that you are able to move the arms, legs and hips freely. For Latin dancing which require swaying hips as in Rumba, or in Samba with its characteristic bounce, it will only make the learning more difficult in tight clothing and it proves tricky for creating the right mood when you want to show off.

In dance party, clothing ranges from long, flowing ballgowns to short, free-moving skirts. Although most girls dancing in nightclubs do not flavour full-length, it is one of the classiest and nicest outfit for formal dancing. It is seen quite commonly in ballroom parties. Latin dancing, fusion dancing and other social dancing usually goes with short skirts, and as this is a perspiring exercise, jeans are usually avoided by experienced dancers even even it is a disco dance.

Fashion is one thing ladies love, however, on the dance floor, some kind of fashion should better be avoided. One of these includes avoiding fluffy tops that might cover your partner in fluff, or dresses with big hanging sleeves, as this makes it difficult for your partner to put his right hand around you. If you are wearing a long evening dress, always look in the mirror and check that when you step backwards you are not going to step onto the skirt of your dress which may either tear the dress or result in a fall.

Average people mind the dress more than the shoes, but shoes are of vital importance- that is why keen dancers mind the shoes more than the dressing. Proper shoes should be lightweight and with a flexible sole, if possible a leather sole. Good dancers use shoes with special 'non-skid' soles made of chrome leather or similar, but at the beginner level this is not necessary. Dance teachers usually recommend (the dumb-looking) practice shoes for all beginner dancers, the only exception maybe for the dance workout, in which people focus on the 'workout' part rather than on the 'dance' part so trainers are allowed. For 'dancers', trainers are not recommended for any form of Ballroom or Latin dances except perhaps for the Rock or jive, or casual dancing on the beach. Generally, the sole of the shoes should not impede movement of the foot across the floor in steps where you stroke the floor with the feet. Also, the shoes should fit perfectly and and not be too new or slippery- wear new shoes in around the house first.

Ladies should avoid slingbacks because they do not give enough support when stepping backwards. Heels that are too high should also be avoided. There is a vast range of specialized dance shoes that offer support and comfort; and they are not that expensive. Considering the many hours you will spend in them, a pair of proper dance shoes is actually a wise investment.
