How to be innovative in choreography (part 3)- actions and creations

internet source: Sexy Dance
We have already known that a dance is fundamentally a series of actions. For so many years, we have already had so many dances, how can we still draw new things out from the already known actions?

If we are just forming a routine from figures, yes for so many years, every combination must be already used. What if we form our own figures? That is exactly why we need to know the actions. If we are not bound to form routines with figures we have more possibilities. And if we play with the timing, there will be many more possibilities.

We have a chapter about Musicality, so now let us look into how to create your 'Move'.

Actions, as we have discussed before, are the basis of your dance. For example, let's say you want a Rumba, you already have a song with tempo like 30 bars per minute. First thing first you know what is Rumba- hold 234, but when it is advanced level you can move or hold on any beat; then you know what are typical in a Rumba- lifting and flying around, drop and developpe, multiple spins, and some sensual moments like caressing faces. All are classic, all are classy, but nothing new.

Putting everything together is easy, but a choreography need a meaning and a focus. Let's say you want to focus on 'spinning' at some point of the music (for some reasons, people equal dancing as spinning, but I always see Rumba is more of dropping and developpe), now you have a number of turning figures: spot turn, underarm turn, curl, Alemanas, three three, three Alemanas.

You can just put the figures together, but the problem is spot turn and underarm turn are basically forward walk turn, three Alemanas is a number of forward walk turn and a spiral in between, the second part of three three is also forward walk turn. If you just put them all together, then you will give the impression that you are doing the same thing all the time.

However, as you have a focus of spinning, you can incorporate spins wherever music fit. But before incorporating anything, you should cut the figures short as there are too many forward walk turns. You can first do the first half of three three, now you have a half turn, hip twist, spin, cucaracha; then you do the three Alemanas, which further gives you some forward walk turns (or you can cut it short), a curl, and a spiral turn, and a point. Since this is a solo (or shine), it is better to face the front wall, maybe you can overturn at the spiral so it ends facing out. Now you can do a spot turn to the side by pressuring on the pointed foot, if you want, give a delay at the turn and keep the point afterwards. From here, you can incorporate a full spin at count 41. You are done with the spinning part, now you can exit with whatever action you like and keep on moving to another section of your dance. Here I give some three step turn and a pose.

P.S. I am sorry I don't have any video editor, I just use template so the video music is not my background music.
