Personal notes about SWING (part 3) - Balboa

This is Classic- Balboa Dancing !!

**This is my personal notes to the Book "Swing Dance by Scout Cupit", summarizing the useful bit for me only

BALBOA
Being a dance originally from the Balhoa Peninsula in Orange County, California, Balhoa is now danced all over the world.

Balboa is mainly danced in a closed embrace, with the lead and follow communicating through weight changes and lead and follow pressures. This dance has a plethora of associated personalities, all with different influences and accounts of how Balboa evolved. Just like other Swing dances, Balboa is believed to be influenced by the Foxtrot, or more exactly, it was derived from the Charleston and Collegiate, which had been influenced by Harry Fox's Trot. Together with the influence by one of the greatest Balhoa dancers of all time, Willie Desatoff, who was took the footwork from Cuban Rumba and applied it to the jazz music, Balhoa had combined the features of Foxtrot, Charleston, Collegiate Shag, and Cuban Rumba. This dance appeared in the 1930s, when the ballrooms owners tended the fashion towards a 'no breaking away' trend so that maximum people could be danced on the floor; thus the Balhoa inherited the closed position and developed into a dance that requires a closed position. However, as time pass and the dance had been heavily affected by another world trend- Lindy Hop. Balboa dancers should work on posture and tend to look more ballroom than Lindy Hoppers.
