Talking about Latin Dancing, I am quite upset about how most dance learners underlook the importance of body flexibility, in most group classes, or even private, warming up exercises and stretching exercises are not compulsory. When we watch the grand champs, we always admire how the world-class dancers move and how neat control they have over their bodies, however, when we get back to our normal classroom having our ordinary dance classes, the most desired thing we want to do is to copy the 'world-class routine'.
We want to look good, I completely understand how strong the willing would be. That's why we keep learning and practising. But will we look good just by doing the same routine? Probably not.
Let's see this video, yes, everyone know them, Yulia & Riccardo.

What did they do? Only basic steps, and when I say basic steps, that means syllabus figures. Are the figures hard to do? No. But are these figures easily be danced to in an elegantly way? Certainly yes.
How can the World Class do these "Simple" steps in such a beautiful way? It's obviously not because of the figures, all beginners know these steps but no one can dance in such a way. The key, now you see, is how you manage your body. It is not only putting your feet in the correct places, and making the correct amount of turn at the correct timing. It is also about how to coordinate your whole body, including the head, shoulders, arms, chest, core, in addition to the hips, legs, ankles, and the feet, oh of course and the ears as we want to have proper musicality.
I have been emphasizing how crucial it is to train the whole body, yet my classes do not really like to do our body separation exercises. This fact somehow hurt me 😭
