As a person who depends on dancing to earn a living, I teach dancing, and I write choreography upon request.
Most clients do have their particular requirements, they may want something closer to contemporary dance, or closer to funky dance, or closer to K pop, or closer to ...
My professional area is Ballroom dancing, the five Latin dances in particular, though I surely learned Ballroom Modern and passed those professional teachers exams. Anyway, I mean I specialise in Latin dances, but you know, when I get enquiries, I need to say 'Yes', I must say 'Yes', although writing / teaching / calling a dance of a different dance style us a huge challenge!
I am always in two minds.
Concentrating on the ones I am good at and keep further advancing in those VS having something new and enjoy being stimulated my dance creativity and stretched my dance ability.
I have to admit that I've got inertia, but I also have an adventurous personality! As a result, I said 'Yes' every time when I got enquires of every kind and all kinds of dance genres.
Only I myself know how torture it is in the process I un-learn my usual dance, and then self-learn a new dance, and after that to create a new fusion dance. Oh but thats not the end, the toughest is to teach such to absolute beginners. How enjoyable it is!!
