I enjoy doing this job, but being a choreographer is one thing, being able to teach our couples to dance accordingly is…
Among so many figures, Natural Opening Out Movement is one of the most useful figure to connect different figures together. Thus it has become one of my favourite moves to be incorporated in the routines.
However, reality is fair. The figure being danced technically will look nice; to ensure it looks nice one needs to pay effort. Merely looking at the descriptions, It is a very simple move.
The first step for man is to step to side or forward while leading the lady to step back in RSP at a right angle.
This is the hardest step from my point of view, because all other steps can be danced without too much leading. Surely with great leading would be nice but without can also work. Only on this first step, if the couple cannot keep the reasonable resistance between the two dancers, the whole balance would be broken, and the frame would be collapsed.
I think this step is quite difficult for beginner men because mostly beginners do not know how to lead with proper skills so the energy flow is twisted. They tend to push very hard, and ladies often forget to keep their arms in shape.
In this way, the centre between the partners is not centralised. The centre for individual dancer is not aligned then.
Therefore resist each other as you step for the Natural Opening Out Movement!
