'I watched a demo from your precious students, their dance looks nice, and it doesn't seem too difficult.' said the new comer.
Oh, this is actually a quote from my nightmare.
Not because the demo is a nightmare,
Not because teaching is nightmare,
it is because teaching a dance exactly same as that demo is a nightmare.
When a demo dance is chosen as demo, the dance should be nice enough, the dancers shoulde be skilful enough, even the dance looks quite simple.
Most of the time, new learners do not understand that simple does not mean easy.
And basic figures do not mean uncomplicated.
Basic figures only mean they are fundamental. Simple moves can look good because the dancers practice to perform neat actions.
It is difficult to tell these complete beginners (with really passion) that they are not going to be dancing as nice as in the demo.
I don't want to discourage them.
I want to tell the truth.
But when I say it could take at least 10-hour package to learn the basic figures as well as to polish them to a watchable level, I can see their passion get obviously muted.
So, and my really nightmare is, I lost the clients. 😳
