Writing for 'I get to Love You'

I was requested to write for a song, and was asked 'if this song is too slow to do some fantastic lifts and drops'.

Emmmmm.

Your ears may tell you that the song is slow.

But, your feet ensure you that this could be a tempo you need to chase up to.

In fact, I think it's tempo is reasonable even for complete beginners. I can understand that they want some classic and romantic moves but they also want some jazzy fun moves too.

To fulfil this goal, counting beats and identifying the structure is needed.

0.00-0.52 verse

0.53-1.35 chorus

1.36-2.21 verse

2.22-3.07 chorus

3.08-3.30 tag

3.31-3.50 ending

A mentioned before, I like the Box (Reverse Turn & Natural Turn), this gracefully looking classic figure is perfect for filling in for the verse. I change the partner positions every 2x 8 beats, depends on the learners' progress. Then change to Jazzy moves for the chorus and the transition starts at 0.40.

The transition I have chosen is basic Arm Jive, plus a Shoulder Slide, and then have a R Wrap in the end.

Starting from 0.53, which is the chorus, will be some staged moves. The combination is like Sway, rotate, a couple of lady's turns, Opening Out and a lift at the catchy sentence 'I get to Love You'. This part is more like Rock and Roll, so as to fit clients wish of having exciting moves.

The second verse can be very similar to the first verse. The Box here can be in the partner positions that haven't been used in the first verse. This way, the dance already presents 4 different positions.

I'll keep the chorus exactly the same as the first chorus- that's the idea of chorus!

I in general suggest to dance until the second chorus, but my clients love the tag 3.10-3.30, so I need to write up to 3.31.

For this song, I wrote a simple solo Line Dance routine, the last 4x8 beats would be a replica of that solo Line routine danced in closed position with partners doing natural opposite steps.

So in short, the whole work consists of 3 parts only, verse (1 + 2), chorus, tag. It is not hard to write!
