Ar... We love the Syllabus.
Having been teaching dancing for quite a while, I sincerely announce that I love the Syllabus.
I love the Syllabus very very much.
New dance learners may question- everyone likes spectacular moves, who likes the simple steps?
First of all, the Syllabus defines the characteristics of a dance genre. This is the basis how a particular dance build to be an advanced one.
However, the basics only mean they are the basis, but not that the basics are simple.
We can say the Syllabus figures mark the neatest way to perform a dance, but never simple.
We can break the Syllabus figures into several dedicated actions, which can then be re-organized into other patterns.
That is why a syllabus is consensus for teaching and learning; a foundation of technique; a categorization for competition.
Following the Syllabus, one can progress and improve. Here improve does not only mean the techniques and skills, but also the understanding of movements, more importantly, a much more thorough comprehension towards the structure and the features of a particular dance.
And these, helps better interpretation of the performance.
