I got an enquiry- to teach a beginner couple a watchable performance to 10-songs-mash-up dance in 8 hours.
The track had been well prepared by the coupe, using free Apps. Ok, the merged audio is hard to describe, Ar... a long story...
The cutting and sewing sounded smooth but if you really count, some of them were not ended in eights or fours. It made a challenge because the final move from previous song was still on the way but the next song already jammed in. There was a little mix of the two songs, which was nice to listen to.
However, it's not nice to dance to.
More correctly, it's hard to choreo, especially when each song takes only 1 to 1.5 minutes. A good dance needs time to build up to the fullest, and obviously a minute is clearly not insufficient.
'Very ambitious' was all I could comment.
But let's face the reality and be practical.
This 3 mins 10-songs-mix is not only 'not friendly', it's mission impossible.
I tried to explain it, 'its a little too much for complete beginners...'
'Ar... Yes, he is new to dancing, but I am not!' The bride looked at her fiancé.
And things became even more complicated, as an experienced dancer and a complete beginner expected differently.
'I can do more complicated moves while he makes simpler things.' she asked.
But you are 'a team'!
'I can signal him when to do what ...' she made a further suggestion.
But the man needed to take the lead in partner dance!
'We don't need to the same moves, maybe he just stands and pose, while I dance a set of shuffles?' she wanted to show her skills.
Oh I got it! Solo would be a good choice.
'But still we want to make it a partner dance...' she would like to have the wedding couple dancing together.
Um... Honestly I believed an easy line formation would fit.
'No no no, this is too easy! We want more surprises!' she wanted to have a spectacular performance.
Ar... Did forget that your partner was still a complete beginner?
Well, the eloquent me tried to let them know that, it would take a reasonably long time to learn such a dance (which met their requirements), but their big day was in 3 weeks.
Their response was 'we insist'.
In the end, I found myself was not eloquent enough to persuade them to have a more practical Plan B, so I told our admin, 'maybe I can't handle this couple.'
