Open Turn, Rolling Vine, Travelling Pivot

Last entry we talked about the Rolling Vine, which is the extended Vine together with turn.

See the difference?

An Open Turn is one step to the side, then a full turn over step 2 and 3, i.e. a full turn takes three steps, the turn starts on count 2 and finishes on count 3.

Those half turns at the end of the rolling vine are like a step with a half turn, a step with half turn, i.e. a full turn takes two steps.

Another step pattern that makes half turns is the Travelling Pivot.

The regular pivot is a step forward with weight and then turn half turn (or 1/4 turn or 3/4 turn) with weight transfer. When we want to dance a travelling pivot, the turn on each step would be 1/2.

The Travelling Pivot is a step with weight and at the same time start to turn away from the supported foot, as a half turn is done transfer weight, as weight is completely transferred the second half turn starts to go. Now we can see these turns are same as those at the end of the Rolling Vine.
