For many, the ability just to get on the dance floor and move around it comfortably, confidently, and inconspicuously is a worthy aim in itself. However, in order to dance in such an effortless way elegantly, it takes a long time. What is more, in order to be able to dance in different social events with different themes, one probably needs to learn a couple of dance styles from those ten ballroom latin dances to the other American rhythm like swing, salsa, meregue and many more. For a newbie, having one of these dancing with the correct beat is already hard, having some knowledge of all sounds impossible.
Now here is the good news, we have this version of the Foxtrot provides an easily repeatable basic movement which first time dancers can quickly enjoy dancing. Despite being designated a Foxtrot, this dance has been designed to be enjoyed to a wide and varied range of music; from Blues to Quickstep, from Tango to Rock n Roll and even some current chart music. In fact, you can dance the Social Foxtrot to almost any tune with a 2/4 or 4/4 time signature, which means virtually any dance music except that in Waltz-time. The tempo, though, will vary according to the particular style of music. Take up the Standard Ballroom hold but, for this dance, you can afford to make it a little more informal and relaxed. The Social Foxtrot is a compact dance, so keep all the steps small.
And the greatest thing has been that, you can keep running on only four figures (Basic movement, Reverse Pivot turn, Natural Pivot turn, Side Step Move) for a whole night regardless what the music is under most social circumstances. What are you waiting for? Put your shoes on and hit the floor!
P.S. I will try to remember to upload a video of this.
