The Ballroom way of Walking

The Latin dancing has its own ways of walking, the Ballroom has its own ways of walking too. While the Latin dancing uses mainly the TH footwork, Ballroom dancing uses the HT footwork most of the time- 90% is a significantly high frequency (check the footwork in your syllabus)!
TH(Toe-Heel) means the step is made from toe to heel, the HT(Heel-Toe) means the step is made from heel to toe. However, it doesn't mean that all steps in ballroom dancing apply the same HT footwork. The general rule is to apply it for forward steps.
  1. We stay in the in the second position keeping toes turned out, up all weight on only one foot.
  2. Keep knees relaxed, leaving the inside edge of the ball for the unweighted foot.
  3. From this prep, the first thing to do before the moving step is aply the CBM.
  4. Then, straighten the knee of the weighted foot, bring the unweighted foot together and then move it forward from the hip by pushing the heel forward.
  5. Keep pressing the floor with the heel, and make the step by putting the weight from heel to ball.
  6. When the ball of the moving foot stay on floor, then transfer weight towards this foot and lift the heel of the back foot up.
  7. Relax the knees but try not to bend.
  8. Repeat the moving actions.
  9. Remember the posture so that the two partners counter-balance each other. If the core connection got lost and posture collapse, the couple would not be able to move in balance.
