To beginners, alignments could be a disaster.
Oprn the textbook, read the alignment chart. We can find eight directions.
Among the eight directions, LOD, Centre, and Wall are the easiest yo understand. The facing DW and facing DC are still fine.
However, the others start to become a muddle.
For me, I always like to think which direction to face, so except 'Backing LOD' I don't use the word 'backing' at all.
For example,
Facing DC against LOD = Backing DW,
But I only use the former to instruct.
When I instruct, I can only teach the Man's position, once man gets it correctly, most of the time, lady is just the natural opposite. This makes things much easier for me to remember, as a dancer.
However, as a candidate gettig ready to sit for the exam, the most useful is to recite. You can use whatever method that makes memorizing easy for yourselves, but when you face the examiner, the syllabus is the King. So te only thing to do is to study.
