Getting to know the Line Dancing Actions and Steps (part 8)- when we say 'Cha Cha Cha'

Kandykane teaching dancing

Cha Cha Cha is a very common term in dancing, it refers to a dance style, but also represent a pattern or rhythm for dancing.

Cha Cha Cha as a dance style has a dominant Chasse, which refers to a progressing step pattern of "move-together-move". In Cha Cha Cha that forward or backward chasse is also known as Lock. The Lock appears when the unweighted foot is tightly crossed in front or behind the weighted foot. It is a position rather that an action. The action is Stroll, or Shuffle.

A Shuffle is a triple step perform when one step forward, the other moves forward and close its instep to the weight heel in third position. Then ends with the initial foot making one more forward step. Although it doesn't explicitly described the middle step be in Lock position, most people with standardized Latin Dancing experience would make the second step a Lock instead of just closing in third position.

Another Cha Cha Cha action is the Stroll. It is described as a diagonal step with a cross behind (lock) forward or backward. The Stroll's diagonal alignment is only difference from the Shuffle.
